Following is a statement from Rebecca Dixon, executive director of the National Employment Law Project:

“The National Employment Law Project applauds today’s SCOTUS decision denying the Trump Administration’s arbitrary and capricious attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This decision is a huge relief for the more than 700,000 young people and their families who can breathe a little easier, now that the threat of being uprooted from home has been lifted, at least for now.

“The decision is just and sensible, protecting Black and brown immigrants and communities of color at a time when the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting economic crisis are severely impacting these communities.

“NELP recognizes the inherent worth of all individuals separate from their labor and the critical role each person plays in the well-being of their families and broader communities. Ending the DACA program would have brought a devastating human cost and would have added another layer of crisis on top of existing crises that are already almost too difficult to bear.

“NELP joins in solidarity with immigrants, families, communities, and allies who will continue to organize against the deportation apparatus and build a movement for long-term, structural immigration reforms that keep people home and honor immigrants’ rightful place in our country.”
