The Trump Administration Should Withdraw Brett Kavanaugh’s Nomination to the Supreme Court

Following is a statement by Christine Owens, Executive Director, National Employment Law Project:

“This morning, Julie Swetnick came forward, under oath, with new allegations that pertain to Brett Kavanaugh that truly shock the conscience. In light of Ms. Swetnick’s allegations, as well as those made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, it is clear that it is past time for the Trump administration to withdraw the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

“The entirety of this confirmation process has been poorly and haphazardly conducted—with little regard to transparency or the tremendous responsibility of a seat on our nation’s highest court. Based on these serious and credible allegations, the actions of the Trump administration and Senate Republican leaders throughout this very rushed process, Kavanaugh’s own remarks during his hearing, and his alarming judicial record, his nomination simply cannot go forward. It is just not possible for Brett Kavanaugh to serve on the Supreme Court with the integrity needed for the position.

“Sexual assault, sexual harassment, and sexual discrimination are disturbingly common, both in the workplace and in every corner of American life. We owe it to survivors—who are still too often dismissed, demeaned, and demonized—to take their stories seriously and to fight back against those who would rush to silence their voices, attack their character, and erase their experiences.”
