The following is a statement from Rebecca Dixon, executive director of the National Employment Law Project, on the Buffalo, NY mass shooting
Our hearts are broken by the Buffalo mass shooting at Tops grocery store on May 14, where a white supremacist brutally targeted shoppers and workers, killing 10 people and wounding 3 others. The killer deliberately chose a Black working-class neighborhood where people have suffered decades of segregation, disinvestment and systemic inequities. Our condolences go out to all who mourn in Buffalo and across the country.
NELP is in solidarity with all who work to uproot white nationalist and supremacist ideology, narratives, and policies that drive anti-Black racism in every sphere, and we are committed to doing our part. NELP’s specific work is to build a good jobs economy leading with abundance, inclusivity, and equity; we are in solidarity with and grateful for all who work to build systems that value and see Black people and immigrants thriving with basic needs met and free of terror.
