NELP on Massachusetts Decision to Pay Home Care Workers $15

The following statement is from National Employment Law Project executive director Christine Owens on the decision in Massachusetts to pay home care workers $15 an hour.

The agreement between Gov. Charlie Baker and SEIU shows that when workers join together and speak out, they can achieve life-changing victories. Paying home care workers in Massachusetts $15 an hour sets a precedent nationwide for America’s fastest growing, but lowest paid industry. Home care workers provide essential services to the elderly and people with disabilities, and finally they will be paid a wage that will allow them to support their own families. Paying home care workers $15 reduces turnover, strengthening the quality and continuity of care. States around the country should follow Massachusetts’ lead and pay home care workers $15.”
