Following is a statement from Christine Owens, Executive Director, National Employment Law Project:
“President Trump’s tragic immigration plans are deeply immoral and threaten to cast our great nation into a dark age of fear and persecution.
“With apparently little regard for the human consequences of his actions, Mr. Trump insists on traumatizing families with the constant fear of raids and being torn apart, and on banning Muslims from America and trampling on our core religious freedoms in the process.
“He insists on building a border wall that most Americans don’t want and that will be a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money, and on compelling local police officers to serve as immigration agents even after police chiefs around the country explain this would undermine public safety.
“Mr. Trump fails to understand that we are a stronger and greater nation because of our history of welcoming immigrants, people of all religious faiths, and those fleeing persecution. His immoral attacks on immigrants, Muslims, women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities, the poor, and all working people threaten to tear apart the fabric of what truly makes America great.
“We stand with all Americans of conscience against any efforts to turn our federal government into the persecutor of vulnerable communities.”
