Cassie Peabody

Senior Program Manager

Biography

Cassie joined NELP in 2023 as a Senior Program Manager in the Worker Power team. In this role, Cassie coordinates NELP’s work with the California Strategic Enforcement Partnership, a first-of-its-kind collaboration between state government and worker centers, focused on improving jobs in low-wage industries across the state of California.

Prior to joining NELP, Cassie was legal director with the Maintenance Cooperation Trust Fund. In that role, Cassie represented janitors in their wage and hour cases with the California Labor Commissioner’s Office and advised the MCTF team on industry-wide investigations. She won campaigns for responsible contractor policies in several local municipalities and supported a group of janitors in securing prosecutorial discretion based on labor violations. She also partnered closely with the Bureau of Field Enforcement at the Labor Commissioner’s Office to develop solutions to the wage theft that plagues non-union janitors in California.

Cassie previously worked as a union attorney with the firm Neyhart, Anderson, Flynn and Grosboll in San Francisco, where she represented trade and transportation unions in all areas of labor law, including arbitrations, matters before labor boards such as the PUC and NLRB, ERISA litigation, and contract negotiation. Cassie was a law fellow with SEIU in Washington, D.C. and a Peggy Browning Fellow with Neyhart in San Francisco. Before pursuing law, Cassie was a community organizer for immigrant worker rights in San Jose, Chicago, Detroit, and Ypsilanti, Michigan in industries such as domestic work and restaurants.
