Adam Wilson

Biography

Adam joined NELP in 2023 as Production Manager. A member of the communications team, Adam enhances the work flows between NELP’s program, strategy, and executive teams in order to produce powerful, timely, and influential content that amplifies NELP’s mission. His work ensures the creative, iterative space necessary for communications team members to generate the products that help build Black, immigrant worker power and advance transformative solutions to achieve racial and economic justice.

Adam began his career with UNITE!’s Southwestern Region (Texas, Louisiana, and Missouri) organizing industrial laundry and other light industrial workers, and was part of the historic win by 5,200 workers at the Fieldcrest Cannon plant in 1999, the largest union election victory ever in the U.S. South. Following UNITE!, he organized with Offshore Mariners United in Louisiana and the Prewitt Organizing Fund. In 2007, he joined StoryCorps, the national oral history project, as director of community engagement, where he led multiple national initiatives and implemented new recording programs in Chicago, Atlanta, and Alaska.

Prior to joining NELP, Adam spent five years as communications manager at Osborne Association, New York’s largest criminal legal system advocacy organization. There he led special projects to produce videos, photography, and visually appealing publications; he spearheaded the production of two short films that debuted in November 2021. Adam is passionate about the power and possibility of creative narrative tools that amplify grassroots organizing efforts and center the voices of people and communities affected by injustice.

Adam is an active public school parent and researcher in the education justice movement. In 2021, he contributed to a research study around a Brooklyn school reform effort and co-authored a New York Daily News editorial about middle school admissions as well as a journal article that will publish in 2023. He is a volunteer safety kayaker at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse and is a certified ASPCA rescuer.
