Following is a statement from Christine Owens, Executive Director, National Employment Law Project:
“President Trump’s description of undocumented immigrants yesterday as ‘animals’ marks yet another sad and shameful moment in this president’s tenure.
“Once again, the leader of a nation built by immigrants has chosen to denigrate and dehumanize immigrants and people of color in order to advance a racist and xenophobic agenda.
“While this president and his administration claim to be protecting Americans, their actions on immigration break apart our nation’s families, destroy the dreams of our children, and shatter any hope of an American dream for countless individuals and communities.
“The United States has learned again and again that we have much more to gain by respecting every individual’s humanity, promoting the ideas of diversity and inclusion, and protecting our most vulnerable.”
