The National Employment Law Project (NELP) joins the nation in mourning the death of Congressman Elijah Cummings. Rep. Cummings was that most-special kind of leader who stood up strongest, without reservation, for the fundamental rights of everyday workers and their families, and for racial and economic justice. He used all his moral persuasion to walk the walk and make real change, not just in reforming the laws but also in raising the consciousness of everyone who needed to hear his message. All of us at NELP were inspired by his passion, wisdom, and kindness.
Later today, we are holding a moment of silence at NELP in honor of Congressman Cummings and all of his contributions to our work, to his constituents, and to the brave communities who will continue to fight for racial and economic justice inspired by his example. His memory will always be a blessing.
