NELP and Economic Policy Institute to Host Workers’ Memorial Day Symposium

On Friday, April 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. Eastern, the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) and National Employment Law Project (NELP) will host a Workers’ Memorial Day symposium. Workers’ Memorial Day is observed annually on April 28 to honor workers who have died on the job and to commit ourselves to improving workplace standards for all workers.

More than 4,800 workers are killed on the job every year; 13 workers lose their lives on the job every day. Tens of thousands more die of occupational disease each year, and almost three million more suffer serious job-related injuries.

Yet, within the first 100 days of the Trump administration, Congress and the president have launched attacks on worker safety and rolled back worker protections that save lives and prevent injuries.

This symposium will feature experts and workers to remember those that have lost their lives on the job, and to discuss the importance of strong government enforcement and safety standards to prevent work-related injuries and fatalities. Our panel will highlight the impact of the rollbacks on workers’ lives, and spotlight other worker protections now threatened by the Trump administration and Congress.

Symposium to remember those that have lost their lives on the job and to discuss the importance of worker safety standards.
