Information Technology Solutions Internship

The National Employment Law Project (NELP) seeks Information Technology students interested in working part time in a nonprofit for our 2020 Information Technology & Solutions Internship program in New York City.

Who We Are

A national non-profit with offices in New York, Washington (DC), Seattle and Berkeley, NELP promotes federal, state and local policies to create good jobs, strengthen workers’ upward mobility, enforce worker rights, and improve benefits and services for the unemployed. In collaboration with national and grassroots partners, NELP advances its work through research, advocacy, litigation support and technical assistance designed to raise wages, end wage theft and workplace violations, improve workplace safety and health, strengthen unemployment insurance, ensure employer accountability for all workers (including workers in contract employment), encourage fair chance hiring practices, and promote a comprehensive policy framework to build a good jobs economy.

The Internship:

The internship program is a paid internship and designed to provide undergraduate students with a stimulating and challenging hands-on experience supporting various program teams. Students will be involved in ongoing technology projects and gain firsthand exposure to multiple areas of technology by working closely with the IT Director. We are looking for students that want to use their technical and project management skills to connect what they learn in the classroom to real-life assignments and projects.

In this position, you will learn how technology is an integral part of the support for any industry, especially nonprofits. The student will work closely with stakeholders on technology initiatives and projects. You will help deliver, design, and maintain high-quality solutions using industry practices and solving problems end-to-end. In this position, you will make a real impact by improving existing systems, tooling, and or processes.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be exposed to many different roles within technology, including but not limited to:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Project lead on data migration projects
  • Handling customer technical support cases through phone and email submission
  • Installation & configuration of computer hardware operating systems and applications
  • Managing data entry into the Salesforce database, which includes doing research on new contacts and updating existing contacts.
  • Ensuring a smooth user experience within the Salesforce database by streamlining page layouts and user processes whenever possible.
  • Working with portfolio and functional teams to manage and develop contact lists for events and communications.
  • Providing general administrative support for staff – including mailings, speaking with various vendors, checking general inbox, and other miscellaneous tasks.

Who You Are

  • Highly computer-literate, preferably with intermediate/advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at a university
  • Interested in Technology
  • A desire to take initiative and suggest process improvements
  • Ability to learn on the fly, problem solve, and stay organized
  • A team player with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to distill technical details into human term
  • Self-starter

Start Date, Hours, Compensation

The position will start as soon as possible.  15 to 20 hours per week for 12 to 15 weeks. Compensation is $20 per hour.
