Immigration enforcement in the workplace has quadrupled under the Trump administration.

  • In the past two years, ICE investigators have initiated four times the number of immigration workplace investigations; up to 6812 cases in 2019 compared to 1701 in 2016. The agency has been so busy raiding workplaces that there has been a decrease in other probes that the agency is responsible for like gang and financial crimes.
  • In spite of the increased actions against workers, there hasn't been any visibly increased use of enforcement actions against employers.

Trump Administration rolls out new immigration policy that complicates the visa application process for certain groups of military and government-employee parents.

  • The policy update will no longer allow children of certain U.S. military service members or government employees to receive automatic citizenship.
  • This change to the citizenship process could affect varying groups of military or government employees. For example, parents who have adopted children while serving abroad or parents who are U.S. citizens, but have never lived in the country.

Trump Administration continues to target immigrant communities by broadening who may be excluded as a “public charge.”

  • The Trump administration finalized its public charge rule, which creates obstacles to obtaining permanent residency for people who qualify for and use social insurance programs ranging from food stamps to Medicaid to housing subsidies.
  • The rule will make it much harder for lower-income immigrants to obtain permanent residency, deter immigrant families from using vital assistance programs and services, and begin to shut the door on all but the wealthiest "green card" applicants.

Trump’s DOJ seeks to dissolve union for immigration judges and curtail accountability.

  • The Justice Department launched another strategic attack on collective bargaining by filing a petition with the Federal Labor Relations Authority that would disqualify federal immigration judges from collective bargaining.
  • Blocking judges from collective bargaining not only strips their union rights but also makes it more difficult to hold the administration accountable for their egregious anti-immigrant policies.

  • The Administration's decision targets immigrants and may deter them from completing the form in its entirety due to fear of deportation or other reprisal.
  • Agencies that use Census data to determine how federal funds are spent, and how congressional districts are comprised, will undercount the population significantly.

Trump proposes immigration plan that while legalizing DREAMers, would drastically restrict legal immigration in the long term, and allocate $25 billion for a border wall.

  • In exchange for granting legal status to the DREAMers, the White House plan would slash family-sponsored immigration by up to 40 percent, eliminate the diversity visa program, and ramp up interior and border enforcement, including spending $25 billion on a border wall.
  • Only one in six undocumented immigrants would gain legal status under the plan, but U.S. citizens could not sponsor parents, adult or married children, and siblings; and permanent residents could not sponsor adult children.
