Biography

Claire McKenna joined NELP in 2010. She conducts national and state-level research, with a focus on unemployment insurance (UI) policy and trends in unemployment, employment, and job quality. Claire has researched or written about various reforms to the federal-state UI program, public reemployment services, work-sharing, long-term unemployment, occupational wage trends, and non-standard employment.

Claire and her work have been cited in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and FiveThirtyEight. Prior to joining NELP, Claire conducted research on the effects of poverty and other forms of instability on young children’s development—work that culminated in a publication in Child Development.
