NELP Mourns Passing of Larry Willis

The National Employment Law Project (NELP) mourns the death of Larry Willis, the president of the Transportation Trades Department (TTD) of the AFL-CIO. Larry was a good friend and close working partner. He spent his career striving to make sure that the workers he represented enjoyed good wages and working conditions, and that they were treated with dignity and respect.

NELP was particularly honored to partner with TTD and Larry to champion workers who were being shut out of good jobs because of prior criminal records. Because of Larry’s leadership and foresight, TTD partnered with NELP to ensure that hundreds of workers were able to pass background checks and work in our nation’s ports.

Larry was a fierce advocate, a valued colleague, and most of all, a good and honorable person. We will miss his passion and intellect, but most of all, we will miss him.

We send our deepest sympathies to his wife, Amy, and his daughter, Samantha. May his memory always be a blessing to all who knew him.
